Gigabyte GA-8KNXP (P4-3.4C+)

I got most stable power supply unit than ever, Seasonic SS-600HT. It's really good PSU!!

I have no experience for RAID0 with 4 drives. I want to check it how good it is.
I'm expecting for multi-core CPU release and I have a plan "Migration."
My current primary PC, P4-2.53GHz will retire and this GA-8KNXP will be primary PC.
And if multi-core CPU is released, then I will have a plan to build it.

First of all, my first target was "1hr DV moving picture should be burnt to DVD in 1hr without any hardware encoding." I was struggling with a rendering from DV-AVI to MPEG and VOB first. (I can say "still struggling.") However, I found the function of MPEG direct sampling from DV camera. Then, the redering/burn time was shrunk totally, from aroud 80 min to 20 min with 4x DVD.
I was so happy at that time...

But, but, but... I was awared to watch the DVD... The picture quality has been changed. I guess the software detects automatically the capability whether my machine can handle 1:1 sampling & MPEG rendering at same time. Then, the answer is, of course, "NO," because the duration of rendering is taking around 70 min out of above 80 min.
Please do not laugh at me, do not say "It is peace of cake, just should buy DVR with DVD burner." It's not my target...

Anyway, anyhow... thus, I am still going to improve Gigabyte GA-8KNXP with FSB=800MHz. And I changed KHX3500 to TWINX10244000PT to get better O/C and RAM stability. Finally, I was end 2.8C with 3.307GHz FSB=944MHz.
However, I could not make my first target.

So, I gave up on 2.8C, and I decided to change to 3.2C.

Then, I got 3.2C, and it is good so far. I am starting to overclock it and now I achieved 3.654GHz FSB=912MHz. I checked an actual performance to input DV camera with MPEG2 encoding and it was better than before, however it took around 90 minutes. I don't like MPEG 2...

Now I got 3.4C, and I decided the setting is 3.809GHz/448MHz. I feel always that high end CPU in the early term is not ready for OC, because a capability is around a little above 10%. I checked an actual MPEG2 encoding and it was improved from around 90min to 75min. It's OK, but I'm not satisfied yet.

Then, today. I "slightly" modified the cooling system from "air" to "liquid." Because my family got many big complaints for noisy loud fans. The water cooling system is quite nice, not so loud and staying cool temp. My family gave me the approval to turn on this PC during they stay at home. It's good anyway.

It's 12% OC. (3.809G/448MHz)
My dream was that the clock reached up to 4GHz... I am always disapointed when I tested a top end CPU. (but I know the reason by myself)

[Update Results on Dec15,2003]
I tried to overclock 15% up again, but it's not done. I think the problem is memory capability, because of PC3500(433MHz) cannot catch up Memory clock 454MHz. If I use PC4000(500MHz), I can reach around 20%.

HDBENCH Ver3.40 beta6
Nothing significant.

Sandra2003
File system Buffered Write is totally down, I have no idea why it's happened. And Average Access Time is changed to 5ms.

[Update Results on Oct25,2003]
I tried to overclock 15% up, but it's not well. I decided to go with FSB=226MHz x4, Memory=452MHz, VCORE=1.6V and VMEM=+0.3V.

HDBENCH Ver3.40 beta6
I checked the overclock up to 13%
It looks so far so good.

Sandra2003
Same as HDBENCH results except Dhrystone ALU. It's little bit weaker than 10% up, almost 5% up's data. I have no idea why it's caused.

[Update Results on Aug30,2003]
First of all, Gigabyte beats ASUS totally. I don't know if it's just "benchmarking software structure," but it is.

HDBENCH Ver3.40 beta6
I checked the overclock up to 10%, because of 20% is OK to boot up Windows, but it's very unstable condition.
At 5% overclock, it looks nice so far. However, HD READ is getting worse at 5% overclock. So I decided to use 10% overclock.

Sandra2003
Overclock makes CPU & HD performance up, however Memory is the exception. I have no idea why it's happened.
Anyway, the results are OK to me. I go with 10% overclock.

About memory speed, it's top level and excellent on this data, but I cannot feel it very much under just normal use.
However, rendering time for moving picture is incredible. To compare with D845EBT with P4-2.53GHz/FSB533MHz, it took 4 hours and more to burn DVD with TV capture AVI file done by All-in-Wonder 9700 Pro.
This machine can do just 2.5 hours. And also, to covert from DV-AVI file to WMV, it took 40 minutes with P4-2.53G. This can do 10 minutes!
I guess this results are due to Hyper Threading, dual DDR and FSB800MHz.
And I compared this file system with previous project, D845EBT RAID0. The differences are O/S (D845EBT: XP Home vs 8KNXP: XP-J Home), RAID chip and management software (D845EBT: Promise Technology PDC20267 vs 8KNXP: ITE GigaRAID IT8212F), and array figure. (D845EBT: 2HDs to 1 port RAID vs 8KNXP: 2HDs to 2 different ports)
There are small differences, but not so much. I want to try to add another 2HD into 8KNXP because IT8212F can handle up to 4 HDs. (Read: D845EBT-78951 vs 8KNXP-73563, Write: 76133 vs 80820, RandomR: 18720 vs 22594, RandomW 36196 vs 34841)

Sandra2003
I can say there is HT effect, because of it's between P4 2.8GHz and 3.06GHz without HT.
Memory speed is OK, 31.6% up with dual DDR (4.2125MB/s) compared with original PC3200.
About File system, I compared with D845EBT's RAID0 results. I don't know why 2HDs to 1 port beats 2HDs to 2 different ports. (D845EBT-45104 kB/s vs 8KNXP-42125 kB/s)
