PC2006 (Dual-core Xeon3.73G/L2-2MBx2)

The name of 2005 dream project has been changed to 2006 dream project. Because Paxville has been released, but the price is so expensive, in addition, Dempsey will be released early 2006 and the price will be cheaper than Paxville's.

At last...
The Dempsey was released now and the price is $876.99 at newegg, not too bad. The detail spec is,

Name: Intel Xeon 5080
Model: BX805555080A
CPU Socket Type: Socket 771
Core: Dempsey
Freq: 3.73GHz
FSB: 1066MHz
L2 Cache: 2 x 2MB
Process Type: 65 nm

And also, the benchmark was revealed!! However, The tests were all conducted by Intel. The results were compared to the most recent results posted by AMD.
Uh... I think, if it's true data, it's good result for me to achieve my target.

Now, few benchmark data are available. One is Tech Channel, Realworld Tech and Tech Report.
It looks good to compare with my Prestonia-1M (See ASUS PC-DL Deluxe].

So I can make it cheaper than ASUS PC-DL Deluxe Xeon 3.2G< and get the over x1.5 performance, I think.

Next is ... Motherboard. I'm still waiting for ASUS performance type motherboard. (actually, the category is "Server")
I don't know what it will be, when it will release. But I expect that it will have great performance. I'm watching on it.
Now few motherboard are available. One is SuperMicro and Tyan.

This is my 2006 dream project which will be able to achieve my target, "1hr MicroMV moving picture should be burnt to DVD in 1hr without any hardware encoding."
PC2003, ASUS PC-DL Deluxe (Xeon3.2G/L3-1MB) achieved "1hr DV moving picture should be burnt to DVD in 1hr without any hardware encoding."
But MPEG2-TS, CBR12Mbps, field order B and 48KHz sampling 256kbps sound is tough. Even PC2003, it takes around 1.5hr.
Thus, I'm expecting that new dual-core Xeon which will deliver up to 50% improved performance over the previous generation Xeon DP single core offering (InformationWeek) and PC2006 can make my target.

[Spec]
The dual-core Dempsey chips will run at 3.73GHz, come with 2MB of high-speed cache memory, a 1066MHz front-side bus for communications with the rest of the system, and include the Hyperthreading feature for speeding.

[Price]
$876.99
